One thing I skipped when I got married was the appointment for bridal portraits. Though I thought they might have been very neat to have, I decided that I really didn’t want to get dressed up in my wedding dress and pay to have my hair done before my wedding, only to have to do it all over again for the actual event. Growing up seeing rock stars on TV, I got the wrong idea about music. Sure, I was passionate about playing music from the time I was little, but that wasn’t what I was really all about. Every time I would pick up my guitar, my drumsticks, my bass, or any of the other instruments I was playing, I would picture myself rocking out in front of cheering millions. I’m not really a traditional kind of girl, so when the time came to tie the knot, getting married in Las Vegas was the first idea that came to mind. Sure, weddings in Sin City can be over the top and even tacky. Yes, we would have to kiss the idea of a traditional church wedding and all the trimmings goodbye in favor of a themed ceremony complete with costumes and impersonators — but that’s what we wanted! Finding the right gift for a bride to be can be hard. It’s almost like there are too many options, and it’s hard to choose the one you think will make the best gift. Though there are many traditional gifts that are useful for day to day life, and will be greatly appreciated, there are times when you might want to go in a different direction. This is when some get a keepsake that will remind a woman of her wedding day for a long time to come. One way to do this is to look for bride dolls that somewhat resemble the bride and her dress. When I had conceived of my wedding in the past, my plans had always been pretty simple. I wanted a big party and a small, simple wedding ceremony. I am never one to stand on ceremony. I figured that, if my bride-to-be agreed, a civil marriage ceremony would suffice. Needless to say, we had very different ideas about what constitutes appropriate wedding ceremonies. As much as I wanted to simplify everything down to the bare minimum, she wanted to complicate things. Read the rest of this entry »

You might be tempted to design your own wedding cake. I know that I was. I figured that, if I did it myself, I would settle on one thing or another. I would be limited by my skills, which would help me make the decision. That is how frustrated I was looking through page after page of wedding cake designs. Each one looked more beautiful than the last, and each one definitely was more expensive than the last. Read the rest of this entry »

To hear certain religious conservatives talk about wedding traditions, you would think that they had existed since the beginning of time and never change.
